Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers

Artist Bio
Drummer Blakey and his ensemble The Jazz Messengers spent the 1960s performing the “hard-bop” style of music pioneered in the 1940s by such luminaries as Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk and Dizzy Gillespie. It was a form of music shunned by some 1960s, who had decided to focus on free-form jazz. Much to the delight of his fans, Blakey never stopped playing hard bop--until his passing in 1990.
